Yes, State law says a school board member of a local education agency (LEA) may participate in the State’s health insurance plan if the member pays the total monthly premium for the coverage, unless the LEA assumes liability for all or a portion of the cost. School board members are eligible to enroll even if the LEA does not participate in the State’s health insurance plan. However, the board member is not eligible to enroll in any other voluntary coverage offered by the State, for example vision or dental insurance.
