You may continue spouse-only group health coverage if:
- your agency has opted in; and
- your spouse was covered on your plan when you retired; and
- you meet the minimum criteria to continue group health coverage for your spouse by virtue of your years of service length of participation in the plan; and
- there is no lapse in coverage (no break between active insurance and retiree insurance).
Also:
- If you do not continue spouse-only coverage immediately upon retirement, you will not be eligible to add them to coverage later even if you have a special qualifying event;
- Your date of retirement with TCRS must be on or before the date your active insurance ends (if you are a TCRS participant).
- If you are enrolled in coverage based upon the eligibility of your deceased spouse, you cannot add your new spouse to coverage if you remarry.
