A dependent child who is on the plan and who is certified to be incapacitated before turning 26 may be eligible to continue retiree group health coverage until they become Medicare eligible at age 65. Please contact Benefits Administration for information about your specific situation.
STATE/HIGHER EDUCATION and LOCAL EDUCATION dependents who become entitled to Medicare prior to age 65 due to disability are required to enroll in Medicare part A and B as their primary coverage. The retiree group health plan will pay secondary to Medicare parts A and B until the dependent becomes age 65. If enrollment in Medicare parts A and B is not maintained, the dependent will become ineligible to remain covered and will be removed from the retiree group health plan.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT dependents are ineligible to remain enrolled on the retiree group health plan upon entitlement to Medicare for any reason regardless of age. If a covered dependent becomes entitled to Medicare, they will be removed from the retiree group health plan.
