If I close my health savings account or switch from the Consumer-driven Health Plan or Local CDHP to one of the preferred provider plans, what happens to my HSA balance?

Those funds remain yours to spend on eligible health care expenses. You may continue to use your HSA debit card to pay for eligible health care expenses for you or your dependents. Be aware that while you were enrolled in the CDHP, the State Group Insurance Program paid the monthly account fee for your HSA. When you are no longer enrolled in the CDHP, your account becomes a personal “retail account,” and you must pay the monthly fee. The HSA administrator will automatically deduct the fee from your HSA.
