If a qualified beneficiary on an 18-month COBRA extension is determined by the Social Security Administration to have been disabled at any time during the first 60 days of COBRA coverage, the former employee and covered dependents may be eligible to continue coverage for an additional 11 months with a premium increase to 150% of the total monthly premium amount for months 19 through 29. If the individual entitled to the disability extension has non-disabled family members who are qualified beneficiaries and have COBRA coverage due to the same initial qualifying event, those non-disabled qualified beneficiaries will also be entitled to this 11-month disability extension. In the case of a qualified beneficiary who is a child born to or placed for adoption with a covered employee during a period of COBRA continuation coverage, the period of the first 60 calendar days of COBRA continuation coverage is measured from the date of birth or placement for adoption.
