Can I decrease the amount of Voluntary Universal Life Insurance coverage I have?
You may request to decrease the face amount on your policy, provided your request is submitted in writing to Unum at least 45 days prior to the policy anniversary date, which is January 1 of each year. If your decrease is approved, it will take effect on the Jan. 1 following your request for the decrease.
Please note decreases cannot reduce the face amount to less than the minimum of $5,000. Unum reserves the right to decline to make any change that Unum determines will cause the coverage to fail to qualify as life insurance under applicable tax law.
Can I increase the amount of Voluntary Universal Life Insurance coverage I have?
No. The plan is closed to increases in coverage.
How can I find out who I designated as the beneficiary for my Voluntary Universal Life plan?
Unum maintains the beneficiary information for each certificate holder. You can contact its customer service center at 866.298.7636 Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT. It’s always a good idea to check the beneficiary information periodically to be sure the designation is current.
