Telemedicine Technology allows a physician or nurse to connect via a secure web camera to a medical doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant. This falls under telemedicine as provided by state law. A claim for a telemedicine visit billed by an in-network provider will pay the same as if you saw that provider in the office and is subject to the applicable PCP copay (primary or specialist). CDHP members will pay their applicable deductible and coinsurance. If an agency has an arrangement with a hospital for a physician-to-physician or nurse-to-physician telemedicine visit, it is not the same as the vendor telehealth program through the state-sponsored insurance coverage.
The state-sponsored plans have a telehealth carrier program. BCBS members must go through Teladoc Health, and Cigna members must go through MDLive to receive benefits. The benefit copay specific to the state's telehealth carrier program is $15 on the PPO plans. CDHP plan members pay a negotiated rate until the deductible is met, and then the primary care office coinsurance applies. For programs other than Teladoc Health and MDLive, the $15 copay will not apply.
