Active employees and eligible dependents may remain on active coverage when they become eligible for Medicare. Medicare eligibility is determined by the following:
- By virtue of age - First of the month in which you turn 65 unless your date of birth is the first of the month, then you become Medicare eligible the first of the month prior to your 65th
- Due to disability - You automatically get Medicare Part A and Part B after you get disability benefits from Social Security or certain disability benefits from the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) for 24 months.
- Any age with End-Stage Renal Disease - Medicare coverage usually starts on the first day of the fourth month of your dialysis treatments.
