Children who are mentally or physically disabled and not able to earn a living may continue coverage beyond age 26 if they were disabled before their 26th birthday and they were already insured on the plan at the time they turned 26.
A request for extended coverage must be provided to Benefits Administration before the dependent’s 26th birthday. The insurance carrier must l determine that the dependent remains eligible to continue on the plan, which approval may be temporary and require annual recertification or permanent. If eligibility is denied, coverage will end and may not be restored at any time in the future.
