All Agency Benefits Coordinators (ABCs) with Edison access can terminate employees who are no longer employed with the agency. Follow the steps below to complete a termination in Edison.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Navigate to the Termination Page
- Log in to Edison
- Navigate to:
Main Menu > HCM > Benefits > Benefits WorkCenter - Select Non-Payroll Job Data
- Search for the Employee
- Ensure Search by = Empl ID
- Enter the employee’s Edison ID (include leading zeros)
- Click Search
- Select the Termination Action
- In the Action field, select TER (Termination)
- Select the Reason for Termination
- Choose the appropriate reason:
- Employee Resignation
- Involuntary Termination
- Gross Misconduct (not eligible for COBRA)
- Employee Death
- Choose the appropriate reason:
- Enter the Coverage End Date or Effective Date
- You may enter either:
- The coverage end date, or
- The effective date (last day before coverage ends)
- The system will automatically populate the corresponding date
- You may enter either:
Agency-specific guidance:

- Higher Education Agencies: Use the employee’s actual last day worked
- Local Education / Local Government Agencies: Use the last day of the month prior to when coverage ends
- Submit the Transaction
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Click Submit, then OK to confirm
Important Reminders
- Benefits always end on the last day of the month
- Terminations cannot be entered on the first working day of the month due to payroll processing blackout
- No documentation is required to process a termination
- Terminations can be entered with a future effective date
- If a mistake is made, submit a Corrections and Clarification Form to Benefits Administration
- ABCs cannot terminate their own employment—a Backup ABC must complete the action
Additional Notes
- If Gross Misconduct is selected, the employee is not eligible for COBRA
- If the employee is deceased, select the Employee Death reason code
- Agencies that delay reporting terminations may face limited refunds (up to 3 months) and potential recovery of claims costs
